A Magical Day!
Today I awoke to glassy shoulder high waves and the bluest ocean I have ever seen in Chennai. The water visibility must have been about 30 feet. I surfed on my stand up paddle board for much of the morning and was later greeted by a school of about 40-50 dolphin just a couple yards further out. I spun my board around and paddled within a few feet from them for about 2 kilometers. They swam up to my board and were jumping and playing as we traveled. It was the closest I have ever felt to nature.
Happy Diwali!!!
Monday late afternoon-
The monsoon rains subsided late afternoon on Monday. Once again, I was thrilled with our decision to stay in Chennai during Diwali break. I took my wind gauge down to the beach and found it was a steady 17-20 knots. I raced back to my house and grabbed my kiting gear and was on the beach within 5 minutes. I pumped up my kite, put on my harness and the clouds opened up and it began to pour. I waited out the shower and launched my kite with the assistance from a local fisherman. Today marks my first day of kitesurfing since returning from summer break. The monsoon winds have kicked in and it is bitter sweet for me. Soon I will be packing away my surfboards and saying goodbye to sunset paddles, but a new season has begun for me and it is now time to embrace the wind!
